Barbie Play - #WDYS #tanka #poem #Barbie #poetry #poetrycommunity @YvetteMCalleiro

Hello, beautiful readers! For this week's What Do You See? prompt, Sadje provides us with the photo below and encourages us to let it inspire us. I grew up with Barbies. My sister and I collectively had over 50 of them. Kens, Barbies, Skippers, and special occasional versions littered our playroom floor. We had the mansion, the pool, the car, the dog, the horse, etc. We even had knockoff versions. We would spend hours playing with them, and we got our money's worth out of them. By the time we outgrew them, some of them were in rough shape as we had given them hair cuts multiple times. Lol! I'm happy I grew up in a time where technology wasn't as demanding as it is now. I enjoyed my creative play time.

I decided to write a tanka poem, which consists of five lines with a 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic pattern.

    1. Yes, I was, Eugi. I also played with GI Joes, My Little Ponies, Transformers, and a few other toys. My imagination had plenty of outlets. Lol! Thanks for visiting. :-)

  3. A beautiful poem. Yap, I also deeply appreciate the time I grew up without technology, though half that time was the introduction of technology, which was exciting to blend the two.
perhaps it's important to give children restricted ipad time, and more playground hours during leisure.

    2. I made sure my son was involved in sports so that he spend most of his childhood outdoors, away from technology. Thanks for stopping by, Jude. :-)

  6. Yvette, I love your Tanka. I too grew up with the Barbie pool, car, house, etc. Those were much simpler times when kids actually socialized and played together. -O'Nika-
