Hello, beautiful readers! I have the honor of sharing my space today with two wonderful authors, Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey. They are the authors of the Enigma Series as well as multiple short stories. They are currently on a "Short Stories" blog tour with 4WillsPublishing, and I am hosting them today. So, give them a warm welcome!
As a reader today, you have the chance to win an ebook copy of Hot Chocolate just by leaving a comment. They are giving away 7 copies, so don't forget to drop a note at the end. ;-)
So, let's begin! Breakfield and Burkey are going to share with you one of their amazing short stories, The Jewel. Take it away, you two!
Julie is a creative member of the R-Group. We portray her as
a cyber assassin due to her ability to identify and neutralize cyber scum. We
leverage the many sides of Julie, including her endearing smile, throughout the
series. The recurring cyber hero is happiest when close to the action. One of
her best skills is her ability to think on her feet and cut to the chase—A
True, Julie appears in several of the novels; however, in The
Enigma Rising, she is working with our favorite pair of bad boys, Carlos and
Juan, in a quid pro quo exchange. The boys got themselves into trouble with
limited options. However, you’ll have to read that book to learn the whys and
wherefores of their obstacles to overcome.
As you have undoubtedly experienced at some point in your
life, friendships and mutual respect can spark something even with unlikely
couples. Time and space align in such a way that Juan and Julie unexpectedly share
their inner emotional baggage from their younger years, which pulls them
closer. When they drop their façade to protect their emotional scars, readers
see humans afraid of personal relationships. This snippet is from their first friend
Comments from reviewers wanted to see more of these two
characters. Readers also wanted to know more about Julie’s history. Writing
this short story allowed us to flush out details that proved unneeded in TheEnigma Rising. We believe it is a powerful story that frames Julie’s worldview
and endears her to fans.
The Jewel takes the reader to witness
the struggle of a young couple in post-World War II Europe. We believe people
are defined by what they triumph over.
and Otto are so in love. They started their family only to learn Haddy could
have no more children. Haddy adores her daughter and helps her grow but, over
time, slides down the slope of depression.
Otto, refusing to lose the love of his heart,
comes to an inflection point. He coaxes Haddy out for the evening to celebrate
her birthday, the first time in four years. Using his charm and wit, he plans
the evening to court her like before they married.
They both dressed up in their finery for the
night of celebration. Their evening progresses better than he hoped when Haddy
behaves carefree as she laughs and gests with him. Walking through the alley to
the theatre, they are confronted by two no accounts looking to rob them and
Otto instantly shifts to the warrior to protect
his bride in the blink of an eye. Can one man defeat two practiced thieves and
protect his wife? Their destiny is about to change as silence descends into the

a few heroes, then expanded to those with self-serving motives. We instigated
this tour to provide insight and motivating factors on the shorts. We consider
these fun standalone compliments to the series novels. Enjoy this tour, and
please provide feedback.
