#TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge - Photo Prompt #Ekphrastic #poem #poetrycommunity #DoubleNonet #lilies #marriage #divorce #perspective

Hello, beautiful readers! For today's #TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge, Colleen Chesebro provided us with another beautiful photo by Terri Webster Schrandt. Colleen states that lilies "symbolize purity, virtue, innocence, hope, and life." For me, they remind me of my failed marriage. 😂

Actually, I love lilies, so much so that I chose them as my wedding flower. They are beautiful, elegant, and classy. The marriage fell apart (14 years ago), but no reason to feel sorry for me. I am happily divorced. It was the right decision for me, and I learned a lot from the experience. Plus, my marriage gave me the best gift ever - my son. So, when I saw the picture below, my eyes saw both the petals and the pollen.

I chose to write a double nonet. This form consists of two nonets, one inverted and the other reversed. Each nonet has nine lines with a syllabication pattern either ascending or descending in a 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 pattern. Nonets are titled.

Lilies - A Shift in Perspective

rose-colored glasses saw future bliss
heart filled with hopes of happiness
wedding bouquet of lilies
no more petals; pollen
tainted what it touched
love did not last
marriage gone
but now
whole
free
at peace
lessons learned
resolve strengthened
new lilies planted
calm and kindness prevail
hope for a better future
abundant self-care brings new love
like life, pollen creates more petals

Has your perspective of an event ever shifted? I'd love to hear from you.

  8. Beautiful, Yvette, and yes, my perspective shifts all the time. Even the failures in life bring gifts, often wisdom or new opportunities, and sometimes the loves of our lives. I have a daughter and now a grandson who wouldn't be here without my own failed marriage. <3 Lovely poem. <3

    1. Thank you for sharing that with me, Diana! Sometimes, people come into our lives for a season but leave us with the most precious gifts. You and I have both experienced that. I appreciate you visiting. :-)

  9. I enjoyed this very much. I like way it flows–for me, as I read it, it seemed the first half was a slower pace, and the second half more upbeat. This fits perfectly to the subject matter. The pace embodies the feelings that hopefully are true to life.❤️

    1. They are quite true, at least to my life. Time seemed to drag during those difficult times, but now there aren't enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do. Thank you for visiting and sharing your experience with my poem, Melissa! :-)

  12. We learn from our mistakes. I like the way your poem contracts and then expands again--just like the process of falling down and getting up again.

  14. I loved it, Yve. I love lilies too. And I’m sure they make a favorite choice for weddings. I believe I chose Lilies as well.

(Trying it again, the ‘situation’ I was signing in with URL— because, besides Anonymous, the URL was my only other choice. . Let’s see how it goes now…)
I entered my email address. Received email to verify yet Anon and URL are the only choices I get.
Ok. Maybe it needs time to warm up to me. I’ll try again next time. Don’t worry over me. Xoxo Tech doesn’t like me. Xoxo lovely poetry. Loved. (This is Selma)

  16. (Jules) One must always make the choices that are best for them. Having a healthy and happy heart and joy for the life you have is as beautiful as seeing the flower as well as the pollen...

  17. Sometimes divorce is the only answer, sometimes it's forced on us - as it was for my mother. She mourned for years. As they aged and lived their lives, she realized she couldn't be happy living the life his turned out to be. Lovely poem pointing out the positives in acceptance.
