Hello, beautiful readers! For this week's What Do You See? prompt, Sadje has provided us with the picture below. I decided to write a free verse poem.
I have existed before your kind
I stand strong, resilient
A survivor of adversity
I can live without you
But you cannot survive without me
You try to destroy me
To cut me down
To use me for your will
You see me as an object
A profit
You fail to see the soul within me
So self-absorbed with your own greed
You don't value the blessings around you
I was here before you
And will be here long after you
And when you perish
And are put into the earth
I will feed upon your remains
And grow stronger

This is a very strongly worded message Yvette. We are indeed indebted to the trees and greenery around us for our survival and yet we are destroying the forests with a thought for consequences. Thanks for joining in with this beautiful poem.

Thank you, Sadje! Our president just ordered our forests to be cut down, regardless of our endangered species or our ecologically important trees. It's very upsetting. I appreciate you stopping by.
DeleteSo, sad. Our governments are on a mission to end the world and all life on it, aren't they?
DeleteWow, this is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Faith! I appreciate your visit. :-)
DeleteI love this, Yvette! We take our trees for granted too often.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do, unfortunately. Thanks for stopping by. :-)
DeleteLeave well alone. If trees could talk, imagine the tales they'd tell.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Keith! Thanks for visiting. :-)
DeleteThis is a beautiful poem from the voices of the trees. I feel the souls of the trees when I wander among the. If only everyone did, they'd never kill a tree again. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mason! I also feel and embrace their energy when I am among them. It's one of the reasons I love camping so much. Thanks for visiting and sharing! :-)
DeleteWhat a powerful message, Yvette. I admire your choice of words. I wish those self-absorbed people could hear what the sensitive and compassionate ones want to say.
ReplyDeleteSo do I, Balroop! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
DeleteYes! We do need to speak up for the trees. Xo
ReplyDeleteYes, we do! Thanks for visiting, Denise! :-)
DeleteKnowing that the earth will survive whatever we put her through is not something I believe the masses understand. This was a powerful piece, Yvette.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Violet! I appreciate you commenting. :-)
DeleteLoved this, Yvette! Filled with truth and such strength either read as if a metaphor for one who is used and abused, or referring specifically about the essence of trees. One of your best, dear! <3
