#TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge - #Syllabic #poem #poetrycommunity #EkphrasticPoetry #WivenhoePark #painting #art #tanka @ColleenChesebro @YvetteMCalleiro

Hello, beautiful readers! For this week's #TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge, Colleen Chesebro has given us a painting to inspire us. It's called Wivenhoe Park, Essex, 1816 and was painted by John Constable

It's a beautiful painting that immediately made me feel relaxed. The first thing I noticed was how my eyes were drawn to several parts of the painting - the cows, the swans, and the people fishing. Each seemed oblivious of the others, and that inspired my poem.

I've decided to write a tanka poem. For those who are new to syllabic poetry, a tanka poem contains 5 lines with a syllabic pattern of 5-7-5-7-7.

peaceful existence
each focused on his own space
Earth provides for all
symbiotic essences
cherish Mother Nature's gifts

What do you see when you look at this painting? I'd love to hear from you.

    1. Thank you, Gwen! Originally, I had wanted to use 'partners', but it wasn't enough syllables. I guess 'essences' was always meant to be. :-)

  3. Yes! I saw the same things. There is a tinge to the trees that made me think of the passage of time. Summer sliding into harvest... excellent take on the painting.

    1. Thank you, Colleen! I know it's just a painting, but I just felt this 'stillness' to the scene, as if each part was so focused on mindfulness that everything was just captured in that moment. Thanks for sharing and visiting! :-)

  14. Loved this poem, Yvette. I was drawn to the water first, then the animals, "each focused on his own space."

  16. “Earth provides for all”

I like how you have used the painting to express that each has its own space and we can live harmoniously in those spaces, as there is enough for all.❤️🙏🏼
