#TANKATUESDAY Weekly #POETRYCHALLENGE #255 @SyllabicPoetry @ColleenChesebro #TasteTheRainbow #Tanka

Hi, beautiful readers! Happy new year! I've decided to dabble in syllabic poetry this year after reading some amazing poems from Colleen's weekly challenges. Yesterday's TankaTuesday challenge asked for a syllabic poem of the author's choice that focused on a color.

If you'd like to join me in this creativity, check out Colleen's post here.

I tend to write free verse poetry, so syllabic poetry is going to be a fun challenge for me. I decided to try a Kelly Lune, which consists of a 5-3-5 syllabic pattern. And since yellow is one of my favorite colors, it immediately came to mind. Here is my contribution.

It's a start. Lol! Hopefully, this is the first of many to come. :-)

  1. Your syllabic poem brought out a feeling of happiness in me. My heart danced! I have signed up with Colleen, but have not set aside the time to try one of the weekly challenges. Your post has encouraged me.

    1. That's wonderful, Karen! I'm glad I could encourage you, and I'm happy you connected with my poem. I signed up with Colleen many moons ago to enjoy the poetry, but I never made the time to try it for myself. It was fun to learn about a new style that I'd never heard of. I look forward to reading your poems because I've loved everything I've read from you, so I'm sure your poetry will be no different. :-)

  2. Yellow, huh? If that color doesn't bring out the Happies, I don't know what will. This is lovely. Made me smile. Thank you and happy new year. xo

  3. Yvette - the use of 'night' in the last line is really striking because 'yellow' immediately made me think of 'day'! Well written :-)

    Sincerely,

    1. I wish I could claim I did that on purpose, but it's be a lie. Now that you point it out, it is a wonderful contrast. Thanks for sharing, Ben! :-)

  4. Yellow is a wonderful color. My forsythia have little four petal flowers. Sometimes even in the winter (I've got strange bushes). And yellow is also the color of the daffodils that herald spring. Though winter has just begun.
    'Exuding optimisim' is very good.

Thanks for stopping by my verse; Three haibun Idyll for Tanka Tuesday. Happy New Year!

  11. Thank you, Colleen! I had never heard of a Kelly Lune before. I first went for a haiku, but then I realized this had nothing to do with nature, so I clicked on the link you provided for different forms and found this one. I had to rework the poem a bit, but it seems to have worked well. I love the psychology of color and enjoy using it in my stories (and now, my poetry). Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate them. :-)

  14. Peppy and upbeat ... suits the idea of "yellow" ....

and I'll say, welcome to the Tanka Tuesday poetry challenge .... even if new to writing syllabic poetry (so many forms, so little time ... LOL) .... it's a great way to just create and play, and of course learn new things. Being a "free verse" type of poet myself, I've come to appreciate how working with syllables can actually make you a better writer and editor, not only within the context of poetry, but fiction too. But if anything, just have fun ... enjoy the challenges ... and just chalk it all up to a great way to meet some new faces and share a love of words and word impressions. 😁
