Generationally Defunct - #WDYS #tanka #poem #poetry #poetrycommunity @YvetteMCalleiro

Hello, beautiful readers! For today's What Do You See? prompt, Sadje shares two pictures with us and invites us to use them as inspiration. I chose the image below and wrote a tanka to go with it. My sister and I have been talking about generational wealth and the importance of setting up our children and their children for a stronger financial life. I guess my mind connected that with the picture...sort of. Lol!

Generationally Defunct

seeking ancestors
mysterious heritage
new revelations
descendants of kings and queens
money, power died with them

  1. Yvette, I like how this explores the search for ancestral identity, hinting that hidden nobility and power that once existed, is now lost 🙌

    1. Thank you, Ange! My sister and I are big believers in creating generational wealth for our children and their future children. It may not be millions, but we are striving to create a nice nest egg to pass on to them when we leave this earth so they can live more comfortably than we do. And hopefully, they will do the same for their future descendants. I appreciate you visiting. :-)

  2. Thank you Yvette for joining in with this thought provoking poem. Very few people think along these lines- mostly leaving their kids to fend for themselves. Lovely idea.

    1. Thank you, Sadje! I feel like only the well-off families understand this concept of helping the next generation. It's one of the reasons why they continue to be wealthy. My sister and I hope to change the narrative for our children and make their lives easier when we are no longer on this earth.

  3. Money and power dying off could be a good thing or a bad one.

  6. Our parents worked hard... but didn't have much to leave, when they left. We did have one relative who had a generous will for several neices and nephews (they were childless).

I fear that most of what Hubby and I have saved might end up going for elder care coverage. But hopefully we'll have something for our children. We've been helping them throughout the years with aide... so I don't feel so bad about what is left. :)

    1. Our economy right now makes it very difficult to get ahead, but I'm hoping to do so at some point. Thanks for sharing, Jules! :-)
