Hello, beautiful readers! This week, Colleen Chesebro challenged poets to create an Abhanga poem for her #TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge. As she explains, an Abhanga poem has 4-line stanzas that follow the 6-6-6-4 syllabication pattern and has an end scheme rhyme of abbc. This poetic form is new to me, and I enjoyed learning about it. I chose to write a double Abhanga for this week's challenge.
The Voices Within
your whispers torture me
insults play on repeat
my strength sapped in defeat
but I persist
you will not control me
I was born before you
your voice now rings untrue
inner peace wins
I think we all indulge in both anxiety and rumination. I like the strength of your words.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that with me, Kerfe! :-)

DeleteI love this and could relate to your beautiful words, Yvette. I used to enjoy rhythming when I was young too but not as much now. This was a fun challenge to revisit that.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Denise! I enjoyed revisiting my rhyming phase, but I'm not sure I'll be busting out with a bunch of rhyming poems again. Lol! This one wasn't too bad because it wasn't every line. Thanks for coming by and commenting. :-)
DeleteA lovely poem, Yvette, and I appreciated your comments about your inspiration. A peace well earned. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diana! It's a peace I work for every day. :-)
DeleteI really enjoyed it! That inner voice can take the control over us, it's a constant battle.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is, Elizabeth! I practice mindfulness and meditate every day to become aware of when she is trying to take over and to keep her in her place. Lol! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
DeleteInner peace. May we learn to tap into that place. It always wins. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Selma. :-)
DeleteI love the spirit of this poem . . . rising above the toxicity in some people. Well done, Yvette.

ReplyDeleteQuite a bit of life lessons are of overcoming adversity.
ReplyDeleteForce rhyme of anykind not my big forte... but I will attempt some new or shorter forms. :D
I appreciate you stopping by, Jules. Like you, I prefer non-rhyming poetry, but this was fun to try. :-)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteAnxiety is a monster! You painted a beautiful description about how it eats away at a person.
Shalom aleichem
Thank you, Pat! As you will see in my newest poem, I know anxiety all too well. Lol! ;-)
