New Beginnings - #FFFC #dVerse #HaibunMonday #haibun #epiphany #poem #poetry #poetrycommunity @YvetteMCalleiro

Hello, beautiful readers! Welcome to a new year of poetry. I'm attempting to write a haiku each day. So far, so good! I'll share some of those at the end of each month. I'm also participating in Colleen Chesebro's Japanese Micro Seasons Challenge, which will be posted at the end of the month as well.

For today, I'm combining the image from Melissa's Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #354 and dVerse's Haibun Monday Challenge where Frank J. Tassone invites us to write a haibun around the idea of an epiphany.

New Beginnings

I have been out of the dating scene for many years. With my son now in college, I've decided it's time to open myself up to new possibilities. It's impossible to meet anyone naturally nowadays, so it's all about the dating apps. I know several people who have met their happily-ever-after on one of the apps, so I decided to give it a try. So far, I've learned there are a lot of men that I'm not interested in. Am I being too picky? Should I change my parameters? After days of swiping, I still haven't found what I'm looking for. And that's when it hit me! I'm not lonely. I have a fulfilling life, and I want someone to complement it, but I'm not desperate. So, I will keep searching, but I won't be settling. Never again.

heart's frigid fortress
cold eventually thaws
more room for warm hugs

  1. I love what you did with this one. Yes, we need a compliment to who we are and can become. Well done.

  2. Yvette, I am glad you reached your epiphany. You, my dear, should never "settle." Remember the Thelma and Louise movie? I'll never forget the line one of them said, "You get what you settle for."

    1. So true, Lisa! I'm done settling. I love my life, and if I don't find someone who can add emotional value to it, I'm perfectly fine on my own. Thanks for stopping by! :-)

  3. There is always hope. Acknowledgment of a fulfilling life whether having a partner or not is a great starting point.

  4. Happy New Year, Yvette. I wouldn’t worry about an app. I found my husband unexpectedly, but knew him already. I prefer meeting people in real life, by joining a book club, a walking group or something like that. If you’re in a group of friends, people tend to notice you, especially if they see you giving hugs.

    1. Happy New Year, Kim! I would rather meet someone naturally, but in the past ten years, that hasn't happened. Lol! I go out with friends all the time, and it just doesn't happen. I'm not closing that door, but it never hurts to explore other options. ;-)

  6. I resonate with this - "There are so many men I'm not interested in."

    1. I completely understand, Reena! I'm sure there are other women who look at those men and find them attractive. They are just not for me. I appreciate you visiting and sharing. :-)

  7. I don't envy you entering this sphere, tread carefully. Although I must say there is something to be said for staying a single, independent woman...nice haibun.

    1. I agree, Di! If I don't find someone who adds emotional value to my life, I'm perfectly fine staying single. But it'd be nice to have a travel companion once my son no longer wants to travel with me. Lol! Thanks for stopping by! :-)

  8. I love this Yvette we should not be defined by who we are with - although it is lovely to find a kindred soul to share your life with, I hope you find someone who is worthy of you ❤️
