Book Trailer - The One Discovered!!!

UPDATED - 12/23/15!
And the winners are.... (see prizes)
Congratulations to all of the winners!
And thank you to all of you who viewed my book trailer! :-)

Welcome to the #RRBC Holiday Train "Book Trailer" Block Party!

I am once again participating in the Rave Reviews Book Club's block party, but this time we are promoting our books through book trailers on YouTube.  I have to start off by saying that I have never before in my life created a book trailer, so please don't judge me too harshly. ;-)  I watched many book trailers before trying to figure out what I wanted to include in mine, and I had one of my Key Club members (thank you, Catt) introduce me to Windows Movie Maker.  From there, it was a whole lot of trial-and-error and what-do-I-do-now's.

The perfectionist in me says it's not good enough.  The realist in me says that my talent is writing, not video making. :-P That being said, I am still very excited to share with you my very first book trailer video: https://youtu.be/XZTzJ5iplxY!  :-)

Oh, and did you know...you can win PRIZES by watching it! The full rules are at Rave Reviews by Nonnie Jules.  But the gist of it is this: watch my video on 12/22/15, leave a comment, and you might win one of the following prizes:

* One (1) ebook copy of The One Discovered - JAN SIKES
* One (1) ebook copy of The One Enlightened - ELIZABETH NEWTON
*One (1) ebook copy of The One Betrayed - MICHAEL LYNES
*One (1) set of ALL THREE ebooks! :-) - SHIRLEY HARRIS-SLAUGHTER

It's that easy! Watch the video on 12/22, leave a comment, and wait to see if you win! Feel free to thumbs-up it if you like it. ;-) And by all means, share, share, share!!! :-D  As always, thank you for your support! XOXO

Top Seller!!! Wow!

On the eve of the release of The One Betrayed (book 3 of The Chronicles of the Diasodz), I am sitting here in awe.  You see, I write not to become rich and famous but to have readers fall in love with my stories. Today, I learned that The One Discovered (book 1) is number 7 on Amazon's Best Seller's Top 100 Free Teen & Young Adult Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Ebooks.  Earlier, this morning, it was in the #19 slot, and I was ecstatic! After all, 19 is my favorite number!  And now, it's in the lucky number 7 spot! I am definitely feeling lucky! :-)

I cannot wait to read the reviews of those who have downloaded the book.  And yes, I am spreading energy out into the world that reviews are written because reviews are the lifeline to a story.  Good, bad, indifferent...a review lets others know that you read it and have something to say about it.  It helps others gauge whether it's worth reading.

I'm both nervous and excited about The One Betrayed's release tomorrow.  Those of you who have read the first two books have been relentless about wanting to know about TOB. :-) I thank you for your patience, and I hope that Rafe's story meets your expectations.  I know that these are my villains, but I love them just as much as my Diasodz, so save a little place in your heart for them, too. ;-)

In case you haven't heard (lol), in honor of the release of The One Betrayed, the first two books are discounted to help you (and I) spread the love of my Diasodz with others. So, feel free to tell everyone you know as well as the stranger sitting next to you on the bus or at your doctor's appointment or in your class or...you get the idea. ;-) Happy reading!

Book One will be free until 12/17. Download it here.
For a paperback copy, you can purchase it here.

Book Two is on sale for $0.99 until 12/18.  Order it here.
For a paperback copy, you can purchase it here.

And finally! Book Three is available tomorrow (12/17)! Order it here.
For a paperback copy, you can purchase it here.

The Chronicles of the Diasodz

The idea of the Diasodz started as a dream.  Really.  It was a dream so intense that I woke up crying.  I had already written two books before this idea came to me (neither of those books have yet to be published).  It was so powerful a dream that I had to immediately write it down.  Throughout that day, I couldn't get it out of my head.  I became obsessed with wanting to know who the four characters (three boys and a girl) were and how they found themselves in such a traumatizing event.  I didn't know their names or their background or their purpose; all I knew was that I was obsessed with them.

I realized their relationship to one another first.  It started out as some kind of love triangle, but I quickly realized that they were not going to go down that road.  Their story was richer, stronger, and more intense.  Their story had history.  And that is when it hit me that they were supernatural beings.  They were created at almost the same time that God created humans, and their purpose was to heal and protect humans.  I finally had the what in the equation.  Now, I needed a name.  I am a HUGE fan of Greek mythology, so it only made sense to me to borrow Greek or Latin terms.  I looked up words that meant healing or protecting, and among the words that I found, I discovered dia-sodzo, which means to save and heal thoroughly.  And I knew that these beings were Diasodz.

Their history began to form in my mind then.  Let me first state that my absolute worst subject is history.  I have never been able to remember important dates or places or names attached to historical information, so I found it a bit ironic that I was now creating an entirely new twist on history for this series.  At this point, I knew that I had more than one book, and I was pretty certain that it would be more than a trilogy.  As I began to relearn my history of the beginning of mankind, I studied various stories, looking for one that would allow my Diasodz to seem as if they could be real.  The fall of Lucifer and the creation of Adam and Eve felt like the perfect fit, and once I accepted that, their entire history played out in my head.  Now, I had a part of my when.

The how was a little more complicated, and these details came in segments.  My Diasodz needed to live longer than regular human beings in order for my story to have the depth that it needed. So, I discovered that they lived their first eighteen years as a human in order to truly understand the trials and tribulations that humans have.  Somewhere around their 18th birthday, they experience their death day, a transition between being human and becoming a Diasodz.

The body goes through varying degrees of changes when a Diasodz transitions; the intensity of the changes depends on how many blessings the Goddess bestows upon them.  All of them become stronger than humans to varying degrees.  All of them live longer as well.  A Diasodz will age one year for every ten human years (it's called a life year, and I won't begin to tell you how frustrating it was to figure out everyone's ages...lol!).  All of them have some type of speck in their irises that distinguishes them as Diasodz.  Some Diasodz have tattoos which can be touched to provide the wearer of the tattoo with weapons to use.  Some Diasodz have powers that either control the mind or one of the elements of the world.  Others can heal with their touch.

Once upon a time they were more powerful, but I realized that my dream was all about them finding their savior.  And when I realized that, I knew there had to be a reason that they needed to be saved.  The Diasodz had turned their back on their purpose, and so their powers were fading.  Unless they could convince the girl to help them, they would all die.  My why was born.

The where came shortly afterwards.  I knew the story would take place on Earth, but my dream had them leaving to another world, a world very similar to ours but with "upgrades." ;-)  Again, I turned to Greek and Latin terms, looking for words that meant paradise or heavenly or sanctuary, and I found Caelestis or Caelum in Latin for heavenly and Hagios in Greek for sanctuary.  Thus, the world of Caelagios was created; it is their heavenly sanctuary when they must leave Earth for a while.

Through all of this, I still didn't have names for the four people who were in my dream.  The other characters were already forming and their names were coming to me, but not my main four.  My who was hiding from me until I came across a story on the internet about the Archangel Raphael and Tobias and then another one with the archangel and Sofia, and somehow, reading those stories just placed the final piece into my puzzle.  My characters were born! :-)

By now, I'm sure you've realized that my series is a young adult series that falls into the fantasy or paranormal genre.  If I've peaked your interest at all, you can read more about the books below as well as click on the links to be directed to their Amazon pages.

If you want to stay in touch with me to learn more about the upcoming books, you can follow me at @YvetteMCalleiro on Twitter or Yvette M Calleiro on Facebook, and you can always find me here. :-)  While you're in a clicking mood, follow @RaveReviewsBookClub on Twitter as well.  They are AMAZING!!!

How do you choose when both options have dire consequences?

Sofia is a 17 year old who is quite content with her life. She has a caring boyfriend who also just happens to be her best friend since birth. She has a loving mother. She is successfully completing her last year of high school and enjoys her part-time job. She can’t imagine wanting more from her life…until Ar’ch (pronounced Ar-rick) enters her dreams, sparking a burning flame inside of her that she can’t seem to extinguish nor does she want to. Ar’ch is a Diasodz (Die-ah-sodz), a species created by the Goddess back when God created humans. Diasodz were made to heal and protect humans, but when the Diasodz turned their backs on helping humans and left Earth to live in their own world, the Goddess abandoned them. Since then, their powers and their very lives have been fading. A prophecy foretold that a young girl born on Earth would be the Diasodz’s savior. Ar’ch and his brother, Angel, travel to Earth to retrieve her and bring her back to their world before her death day in order to save their kind. Ar’ch knows the drill: find the target, capture her, and safely bring her home. But what happens when the target captures his dormant heart?

Choices create action. Actions have consequences. When faced with the truth, what choice will Sofia make? Will she be able to accept the consequences that follow?

***Warning!!! Do not read the following book blurb unless you have already read The One Discovered.  Otherwise, you will ruin a few things.  Don't say I didn't warn you!!!*** :-P

Sofia has lost everything that was important to her: her mother, her boyfriend, and her best friend. Even the belief that humans are the only beings in the world has been stripped away, but she has no time to dwell on her losses because she’s been transported to a new world to become the savior of the Diasodz. Sofia trusted Ar’ch and Angel to be there for her and to guide and protect her, but only Angel has held true to his word. Ar’ch has abandoned her, leaving her to feel tricked and betrayed.

Ar’ch brought Sofia home, fulfilling his mission to bring their savior safely to their world, but it didn’t come without a cost. Rafe, Sofia’s boyfriend, was killed, and Ar’ch believes Sofia blames him for it. Ar’ch’s sole focus becomes doing what is best for Sofia, and in his mind, that does not include him.

As Sofia deals with Ar’ch’s absence, she throws herself into learning about the Diasodz’s history. She grows stronger both emotionally and physically, and begins to accept her role in their world, but not everyone is convinced that she is the one whom the prophecy states will save them.

Beliefs will be challenged. Secrets will be revealed. Relationships will be shattered. And in the aftermath, evil will see its opportunity and strike. Will Sofia be able to handle it all? Or will the savior of the Diasodz lose her will to continue?

The One Betrayed (Book 3)

I am writing the LAST chapter of The One Betrayed this weekend!  As soon as I finished editing typos and whatnot, I will send it off to my beta readers.  I will then start working on the cover.  The goal is to release it somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so the winner of this blog who wins this e-book will need to be just a little patient with me. I promise it will be worth the wait. ;-)

Thank you for visiting my blog today! Don't forget to leave a comment below to have a chance to win some prizes. :-) And while your at it, why not visit some of the other amazing blogs from #RRBC's Book and Blog Block Party by clicking here.

On Becoming Book of the Month

I believe I've mentioned before that I am a part of this absolutely amazing group of readers and writers called Rave Reviews Book Club.  There are so many things that I enjoy about this group.  For starters, they have books galore!!! For an avid reader like me, it's fun to explore their catalog of books by authors that are not as well-known but are just as fabulous.  The books are listed in their Book Club Selections for Review by genre which helps me to find the books in which I'm most interested.

I also love that they have writing contests for people who love to write.  I've yet to participate in these since I'm too busy trying to stay on track for my self-imposed release date for The One Betrayed (book 3 of the Diasodz series).  Still, the contests are there to help expose great writers to the world.

Mostly, I love the support that they give to indie authors! :-) It's tough to be an independent author in this world.  Not only are you doing your best to write your novel, but you also have to publish and promote it on your own.  It's exhausting and rewarding at the same time.  I have no complaints and am truly enjoying the journey, but if it weren't for this group, I think I'd feel alone in my dreams.

They are SO supportive!  They have a program called Pay it Forward, where authors agree to promote other authors on specific days in hopes of bringing new readers their way.  One author promotes only one other author and does not promote him/herself on that day.  It's a wonderful way of helping each other, and I love being a part of it.

They also have #PUSH days where all members tweet and blog about one specific author in hopes of helping that author reach new readers.  And now they have the Rave Waves blog talk radio!!!  If you are a book lover, you definitely want to tune in to this! They also have a monthly newsletter to keep members up-to-date with the latest and greatest.

And last but certainly not least, they have a member of the month and book(s) of the month section! Members read one another's books and write reviews to help push the books into new hands.

This month, I have the honor of having been chosen as one of the Books of the Month! I was so excited when I saw the announcement on Twitter by another member.  And the members have been blowing up Twitter every day to promote my novel.  How amazing is that!  I am humbled by their kindness.  Many of them will read my novel and write reviews, and I cannot wait to read them all!

It's hard for me to keep up with social media, especially during the school year when I'm teaching full-time during the day and being a baseball mom at night.  I try my best to keep my Facebook, Twitter, and blog up-to-date, but they tend to take a back burner when I have little time and need to write pages for my novel.  That being said, I make the time to support #RRBC and their members because they support me and indie authors everywhere.

So, take a moment and check out their site.  If you like what you see, join!  You will be very happy that you did. :-)

Becoming Twitter Friendly

Self-promotion has never been my thing.  I have always been that girl in the background, the one trying not to bring attention to herself.  If I'm in an intimate setting, I will be more open and partake more in the conversations, but I let others take the limelight in larger groups.  It is who I am, and I'm happy with it.

When I finally found the courage to self-publish my novels, I realized that I would need to step out of my comfort zone and let others focus on me through my writing.  I also knew that I would have to promote myself and my novels if I wanted to sell any copies, and this brought me great hesitation and anxiety.

I tried direct sales for a bit and found that I didn't enjoy the feeling of pushing a product upon others.  I truly believed in the product and still do, but I felt uncomfortable trying to convince others of its benefits.  If I felt awkward selling a product that I did not create, imagine my hesitation in trying to sell something that came from my very heart and soul.  I was terrified (and still am in some ways).

I was told that I needed to join Twitter to help push my book.  I joined and then did nothing because I had no idea what it was about or how to use it.  I can honestly and humbly say that I probably still don't know how to reap the best benefits of Twitter, but I can now appreciate the value of it.

I immediately connected with my friends, but I knew that wouldn't really help me reach the mass audiences. Then, one day I somehow came across an amazing collection of authors and readers and joined their group, Rave Reviews Book Club, or #RRBC.  As I always do, I stayed in the background, just observing and getting to better understand how it all worked.  As time passed, I knew I had found a new home.  I became surrounded by others who were passionate about the written word and wanted to share their love of stories.

I then found #IndieAuthorsBeSeen, #IAN1 (Independent Authors Network) and #BooksGS (Books Go Social).  These groups also focus on lifting authors up and helping each other to promote their works so that readers can fall in love with new stories.

I watched the type of tweets that these amazing authors sent into the world, and I mimicked them.  I clicked on their links and even downloaded a few of their novels, read them, and wrote reviews.  Then, I tweeted about the reviews I had written.  And then something miraculous started happening...#RRBC chose me as part of their #PUSHTUESDAY promotion.  All of a sudden, the masses were tweeting about my novel.  I felt so honored that these complete strangers would help me share my work.  And then #IndieAuthorsBeSeen promoted my first novel on a radio broadcast.  #BooksGS followed with tweets and sharing my novel on Pinterest.

I realized that I could promote myself through others, taking away my unease of speaking about myself while still getting my books into the hands of readers.  Because I am not a selfish person, this wasn't enough for me.  I believe in shining light upon those who share their spotlight with me.  Unfortunately, I barely have time to write, much less scroll through thousands of tweets per day, so I had to find a way to productively promote my supporters.

Luckily, I found my happy medium through chance.  I was lucky enough to be asked for an interview by @PukahWorks.  Not only did she post my interview on her blog, www.pukahworks.wordpress.com, but she also read both of my novels and posted honest reviews.  Then, she promoted all of it for several days, and she did all of this out of the goodness of her heart!  Suddenly, people were retweeting her tweets and helping to push my works, and I knew I had to thank them in some way.

A simple thank you just wasn't good enough for me, so I visited each of their pages and scrolled (and scrolled and scrolled) until I found a post in which they were promoting their own works, and I retweeted that.  And it felt great!  I realized that the best way to honor those who help me promote my own work was to turn around and help them promote theirs.  Although I do not have the time to read through the myriad of tweets that come to my feed, I can make the time to help those who honor me with their time.

I find myself visiting Twitter more now to interact with other authors and with readers of my novels.  Those interactions always put a smile on my face.  I am grateful to have found the groups above who have made me feel a part of a loving family of authors who help one another succeed.

I will continue to help promote those who tweet and retweet about my novels because they help me not have to bring attention to myself.  I just wish Twitter would separate a person's tweets from the tweets that they repost because many of these authors love bringing light on other authors, and I sometimes scroll for a VERY long time to find a self-promoting tweet. lol!  Guess I'm not the only one who struggles with self-promotion. ;-)  Luckily, none of us struggle alone; we have one another to shine light on new authors and new novels so that the lovers of the written word can stay happy. :-)

P.S. If any of you know the Twitter Gods, it would be GREAT if they could take their tabs on the profile page from Tweets|Media|Favorites and revise them to Tweets|Retweets|Media|Favorites. :-D

Great Things are Happening! :-)

As great as it felt to be interviewed by a blogger, it was even more amazing when one of my characters earned the privilege of having his own interview.  Of course, Ar'ch would be the first to have this honor.  ;-)  Here is the link to his interview with Pukah Works: https://pukahworks.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/meet-arch/  He is quite happy with himself and is looking forward to meeting other bloggers who are interested in the Diasodz.

I was also honored recently by BooksGoSocial (#BooksGS) when they placed my novel on their Pinterest page, BooksGoSocial Books to Try in 2015! http://www.pinterest.com/laurenceobryan/booksgosocial-books-to-try-in-2015-1/  So, if you are a Pinterest fan, please go to this page and pin my novel.  And while there, take a look at the other novels listed! You may just find some great reads to add to your list for this year.
