A Recipe for Smiles - #W3 #couplets #poem #poetry #poetrycommunity @YvetteMCalleiro

Hello, beautiful readers! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did. I celebrated one of my closest friend's birthday on Friday. On Saturday, I attended the Louder Than a Bomb team finals slam poetry competition, which was amazing! And yesterday, I spent a beautiful day at the beach. What made the weekend even more special is that my son came home from college for the next month. It feels so good to wrap my arms around him again.

Today, I'm participating in Wea've Written Weekly (W3) Prompt #208. Nancy invites us to write a poem using rhyming couplets (two lines that rhyme) that gives instructions for something. I decided to write about happiness.

 A Recipe for Smiles

to make happiness stick
you need to lay it on thick

sprinkle sunshine's rays
into all your days

give up all the whining
and find the silver lining

when you are visited by doubt
kick that sucker out

see life through the eyes of a child
let your imagination run wild

find gratitude in everything
give your heart permission to sing

make sadness out of style
by remembering to smile

  1. Yvette, I like “kick that sucker out” because it sounds like you’re fighting your bad mood like a ninja, and it makes me laugh while also kind of wanting to try it!

    Much love,

  3. Yvette, I love your poem for a number of reasons .... it's simplicity, it's truthfulness, and it's humor, just to name a few. There are very few things in life that we can completely control, and one of them is happiness. No matter what else may be going on in our lives, we can always bring happiness to ourselves and to each other. I felt every verse as I read your poem. It's a wonderfully delicious recipe! Congratulations .... I have chosen you as our next POW!
